Railrider
An on-rails shooter where the player is grinding on a rail! Shoot the enemy drones out of the sky to score points, but be careful not to lose your balance - it’s a long way down.
Controls
A/D or Left/Right - Shift weight to balance Mouse - Aim Left Click - Fire
Try to stay on the rail while shooting enemies. Make sure you take them down quickly, before they start shooting back! Make it to the end of the rail to win, and try the different difficulty levels - you get more points on higher levels, but it’s much harder to balance.
About
Created for the Ludum Dare 49 game jam, where the theme was 'Unstable'. My idea for this was Tony Hawk’s meets Time Crisis - an on-rails shooter where you had to balance at the same time. The Tony Hawk’s grinding mechanic worked out pretty well, but the fact that (by definition) you have to be constantly moving meant I had to dial back on the rail shooter side a little. Sadly, features that didn’t quite make it in include a nice AI system with swarming and building avoidance that I had to scrap to finish everything else in time - it’s still quite a challenge though!
Everything made in 72hrs. Written in C# in Unity, music in FL Studio, graphics in Cinema 4D + Substance Painter
